long-term projects
- See if you can continue our work from class by finding a problem in your story and see if you can create a solution to that problem using materials you have at home. When you finish create a Seesaw video that tells us about your book, the problem you were solving, and your design. (posted 3/23)
- For this activity you will find something that you are passionate about, research the topic, and create something based on what you have learned. Each week I will assign you steps to take to complete the activity.
- Week 1- Go to Actively Learn (through Clever) and read the article titled "Meet the 11-year-old girl who invented water testing device." After you have finished that article, choose at least two other articles about people who are making positive impacts on the world. There are 14 articles to choose from, and you can read more if you want. When you have finished your articles create a video post on Seesaw explaining which ones you read and what you noticed about them. (posted 3/29)
- Week 2- Now that you have read some articles about people making positive impacts in the world, come up with some project ideas that you could do. Once you have some ideas do some research on the topic. Need some inspiration? Check out this link to see project ideas my 5th graders from a few years ago came up with: http://mrmccullochclass.weebly.com/genius-hour.html (posted 4/6)
- Week 3- Continue to research your idea, and begin to formulate a plan of something you could do. Once you have an idea, post it to Seesaw. (posted 4/18)
- Week 4- Time to go from planning to designing. Come up with a plan on how you can take your idea and turn it into something tangible. Share what you think you might do/create based on your research and thinking. (posted 4/18)
older activities
- Check out these links and read through them: https://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/p180-howtoread.html https://www.mensaforkids.org/read/a-year-of-living-poetically/ Then choose a poem to read aloud (I like "Hope is the Thing with Feathers"). When you are ready, go to Seesaw and create a video of you reading the poem. After you are done take some time to explain the poem and why you chose it. (posted 3/23)
- Go to Seesaw to complete the Blackout Poetry activity. If you can't do it digitally, you can do the same activity with markers and old newspapers or magazines (don't do it in your books!). You could post a picture of your poem to Seesaw afterwards if you wanted to. Also, try the Book Spine challenge and take a picture of your poem. (posted 4/6)
- Here is a fun activity to do while you are reading a book. (posted 4/6)
